I read "ISLAND FOR SALE". I think it is a happy ending story and I like it!
There are many islands in the sea near Scotland. This story is about one of these islands. The name of the island is Lana.
Lana isn't big, but it's very beautiful. It's very quiet, too. There are no houses or roads or cars on Lana. But there's a castle. The castle is very old.
A young Scotsman lives in the castle. The Scotsman's name is Duncan McTavish. Duncan lives in the castle with his dog, Jock.
One day in winter, he gets a letter from the electricity company and it says that he must pay £5,000 for them. He use a lot of electric lights in all the rooms, because the castle is very cold and dark. He cannot have such as big money, so he has to sell his island and his castle.
First, Leaping Larry who is the famous American rock star wants to buy the island for his girlfriend. He and his girlfriend, Roxanne with her dog, Bobo come to the island. When they go into the castle, there hasn't been any light already so Roxanne gets angry and she hopes Larry to take her back to home soon. However, Larry will build a big new house there so he doesn't want to go home yet. Duncan and Jock are unhappy to hear that. They go to see the island in Duncan's boat but Roxanne and Larry have a quarrel and they go back to home in the end.
Duncan and Jock are happy again but they don't solve the problem.
He meet a woman painting a picture after Larry and Roxanne go home. Her name is Jean Stewart and she is a teacher at a school across the sea. He talks her about his problem and she tells a good idea to solve it then! She suggests that the people can come the island for holidays, and they can paint pictures of it because she teach them, and they can stay the castle, so he can make a lot of money. Finall, McTavish Painting Holidays are very famous and they have a lot of money so there is no problem with the electricity company. As you can see, Duncan and Jean are married and they have two children - a boy and a girl. They including Jock are very happy now!!

It is better that Duncan doesn't sell his island for Larry. Roxanne may part from Larry after a quarrel. I think Roxanne is happy as long as Bobo is with her so Larry is only unhappy person in the story at the last.
By the way, I notice that "Roxanne" is used in "Billy and the Queen" too, though she is called Rox in it. I think that the name may be seen in the U.K. a lot because these stories are written in British English.
I read it without a dictionary so I think it is easy to read;)
