I read "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" written by Washington Irving. This is in the same book of "Rip Van Winkle".
We learned about it and we watched it on DVD at American Literary History class. The book of it and the DVD of it were a little different. Ichabod Crane is a teacher in the book but he is a lawyer in the DVD.
I think it was a scary story.
Ichabod Crane was a teacher in Tarry Town. He wanted to marry Katrina Van Tassel who was very, very beautiful girl. Her father had a big farm so he wanted it too. However, a lot of men liked Katrina. Brom Van Brunt thought that Ichabod was his rival.
One day, Baltus Van Tassel, Katrina's father invited many people to his farm in order to eat and talk. Ichabod and Brom were invited, of course. Ichabod wanted to get there earlier than Brom so he went to borrow a horse at Hans Van Ripper's house. He could have Gunpowder which was very old horse. Gunpowder had only one eye so he couldn't run very quickly.
When he arrived at the farm, there were a lot of people there. Katrina and Brom were there too, but he could dance with her. Brom watched them and he was unhappy.
Some people from Sleepy Hollow talked about the strange noises and ghosts there.
After the night, Ichabod was not anywhere in Tarry Town, though his horse came back to Hans Van Ripper's house. There was a hat near the Sleepy Hollow and the hat was his hat. A pumpkin was near the hat so people thought the ghost threw it at him and he was dead. The people in Taarry Town were very sad because they liked Ichabod. However Katrina married Brom.
A long time after, an old farmer found Ichabod in New York. He was alive! The farmer told the people in Tarry Town about him and the ghost. Brom and Katrina were there but Brom was very happy now.
I think that the ghost in Sleepy Hollow was Brom, because he was a good horse rider and he doesn't like Ichabod. The night was very dark so Ichabod might think a pumpkin was the head of the ghost. However I don't understand why Ichabod went to New York. It's strange!
I recommend Rip Van Winkle rather than The Legend of Sleepy Hollow when you read this book, because I think Rip was strange and interesting but Sleepy Hollow was only strange.
See you again:)

Tarry Town was a small town near the Hudson River. Sleepy Hollow was a place near the town.
"There are ghosts in Sleepy Hollow," some people said.

One story was very interesting. It was a story about a horse rider. He was a ghost and he didn't have a head! He lived in Sleepy Hollow, and the people were afraid of him.Ichabod wanted to stay at the Van Tassels' house in order to talk to Katrina but she didn't want to do. He had to go home by way of Sleepy Hollow. He was afraid because he remembered the ghost stories but his horse couldn't walked quickly.
"Remember Mr. Brouwer? He went to Sleepy Hollow one night, and the ghost was there. He threw Mr. Brouwer in the small river."
"I know that ghost," Brom said. "He was in Sleepy Hollow one night, and I was there, too. But I'm a very good horse rider and he didn't catch me." He had a smile on his face.
Some people didn't believe him, but Ichabod believed every story.
The strange man and his horse were there. Ichabod looked at the man. Then the man came near Ichabod. He didn't have a head! It was the ghost! Ichabod looked again. The ghost's head was there, but it was on the horse's back. Ichabod was very afraid now.
"Run!" Ichabod said to his horse.
But the ghost's horse came after him. The two horses went quickly down the road. The ghost was a very good rider, but Ichabod's horse went in front of the ghost. Ichabod looked behind him. The ghost had his head in his hands. Then the ghost threw his head at Ichabod!
"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" Ichabod said.
